(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Technology firm Toshiba (www.toshiba.com) announced over the weekend that a breach to its US sales subsidary’s server has compromised email addresses and passwords of 681 customers.
According to a report on Saturday by the Wall Street Journal, Toshiba says the server at Toshiba America Information Systems had personal data for 7,520 customers, though none of the information included credit card or social security numbers.
While there are fewer victims in this breach than those stemming from hacker group Anonymous recently, these sorts of consumer information leaks are becoming a regular occurrence to technology corporations. Last week alone, Anonymous leaked the information of 2,500 employees of agrictulural firm Monsanto, and 90,000 passwords and emails of military personnel from Booz Allen Hamilton.
